OKay ! i been absent for sum time - well,been at it last winter at th glassworks - WAY good .

found some new ideas and plan to implement them through this winter;again,at the "glassworks".

last winter i learned some great technique from D and intend to carry forth with some related schemes !

got out to the glassworks at 1pm. talked to d. a bit and gave him c.d. from the firstcup show last year - likes a lot of my work - high praise indeed !!
new guy shows,we fill out some paperwork and pay up...time to have fun with glass !

quite a few differences from the way a.b. works,different layout,glass seems hotter,glory hole better and d.'s a regular laugh riot !
got back about 5:10,pretty beat,but was great to get back at it...gonna be some pretty cool shit comin up..

will get final word mid-week as far as time,but D.S. IS opening studio for class. looks like sunday 1-4 and tuesday 4-7 (t.b.d.) just myself and a newbie "bb"..we can pretty much set up our own time. 8 classes/4 weeks = 750.00 split - HECK YEAH !! $15.62 HOUR !! half of a.b. rate !

couple weeks ago they posted a contest - win a signed shepard fairey progress sticker;identical to the print i got back in may !
i got it friday - and they included lots of other swag as well !

worked up a new project thru the summer.reduced my blu moon painting via. scanning and printing;sent it off to "sticker robot" and had a run of 1000 printed ! came out even better than expected. GREAT for urban art assault and "culture jamming". man - they're all over town (s) now !! LMFAO !!

one very good thing of the year past - HAD FIRST SOLO SHOW ! just a small coffee house,for a week. the opening went well,not real crowded, friends came by;patrons in and out all afternoon.put out cards and c.d. catalog - got a few calls during the following week and ended up selling 4 pieces... on my way to the big time !! lol

sometimes ya get thrown a curve... dad went down sick late last year..lost him in january : ( really did very little good work... then my mom passed suddenly in feburary - just like that !

now that was fucked up !! took a hiatus the rest of winter,but did go back in april a bit.

things have changed a little due to the estate..may open my own shop in a couple years & started collecting some of the art (limited edition prints) that i enjoy/admire;soto,caeser,choe,brandou - and yes ! i got my ryden !!! - so this will also become an art blog as well

going to contact b. this weekend to see if she is working this year - have to start cooking up some plans/ideas..going to continue working on the odd handles again...see below

got out to hot shop about 9:05.b. already there,glory hole getting hot. set up bench..
showed b. & c. some of the salt prints..they like "em..
b. lets me go first.."how do you do this again"??? lol got it together right away..pulled of 3 gathers into new mold..worked good but part of shoulder caved in ...oh well...
ended up pulling of 4 pieces by noon !!all intact - no bad punties or cracked bottoms...YOWZUH !
new guy out today - HOTDOG running in shop,yelling,acting up - he's impressed with himself !
what an ingrate ! b. & i just roll our eyes.
planning on getting back next week too...

Well,made it out to ypsi sat. a.m..got out 9:15 - no b. WTF ?? a.b. there.. "i tried calling you""we have a time conflict" (yeah,yeah,yeah) THAT'S OBVIOUS !!

had a good chat with a.b. though..about the future show this summer,ordered up a 4" block;she showed me this way cool u.v. film for sandblasting "rayzist"..comes with a really sweet u.v. light,film,washer,print paper... about 400 bones.

not a total loss of time,a nice drive..did some errands on way back. - try to get things organized b. for next week - what a flake !

i know it's been a while...but with the holidays,etc.
last studio time on sat. FOR 8 FREAKING WEEKS ! thanks to that concordia scam...lol "the big bucks"..so,will do reasearch,go see d.s. place,visit the new shop in dearborn and work on new molds and tools !

got out sat. a.m. ... b. not in yet,so set up bench and laid out pipes and punties to preheat....
time to get started..did a 2 gather with a mix of black and white..looked pretty sweet !
2nd piece did 3 gathers..seemed like more..shit ! was a lot of glass..swung out for new mold,got great height ! neck broke a little jagged.did a lip wrap and screwed that up..lol..just too freaking hot.."gotta bail on this one"
3rd piece,did sand yellow interior,2nd gather and wrapped in pinetree green..raked lines into it about 10 times,burned in and swung out into a bud vase shape...FREAKING GREAT !!!!

in passing i learn more about the special class coming up...8 weeks the shop will be tied up..asked about "my" afternoon time (as discussed earlier...weeks ago) 'oh,there are'nt any openings'..the usual bullshit lines... feh..glad i've done/made all those little xtras around this joint...f.u. too !... i'm getting the impression b. is going to be helping..well i hope it works and does'nt reflect poorly on her..what with a.b. coming in late,blowing days off,changes in plans,shorting hours,etc..i mean people are paying like a grand for an accredited course...i dunno with the track record out here..lmfao !!!

got out to studio a little later..glory hole ripping hot,got bench set up - ready to rock....
did 3 gather right off the bat..in optic mold with blue and white,twisted it up good..got good length,flared the lip just a tad..looks nice..b. does a great punty now..broke off clean as a whistle..lol.
tried a lip wrap with b after explaining what i'd read on the matter...worked out pretty good..will require more practice however..
b. split at 11..and after that,things kind of went to hell in a handcart..lmao !

o.k. ..i admit to working last saturday..did'nt post any pics because i really have no other new work..just the first fish and that was butt ugly..lol..
got in at 9am as usual.. did 2 gather in older hex mold w/iris gold reduction, b. doing GREAT punties now !
decided to try that old aquamarine blue..its been preheating for a while..did crown to color pick up,then 2nd gather,got good shape,a little chill..THEN NEAR DISASTER ! got 3rd gather..err WTF??!! was flopping all about,getting softer and softer IT'S OUT OF CONTROL !!! LOL
barely made it out of furnace to bench..it ran all over floor....seconds more and that would have been in a freshly charged furnace RUINING 300 LBS OF CLEAR GLASS
A.B. WOULD NOT BE AMUSED............lmfao !!
ended up using blue frit/3 gathers in new mold,pulled a pour lip and boxed that puppy..it was kick ass !
tried another fish with b. ...worked out a little better..it then visited the floor lol
had a good one this session........off this weekend due to holiday.
on a side note : hooked up with fabric artist "S"..hoping to colaborate on some projects...but the primary focus (according to her) is getting some bone.. lol..well,see if she's hot this sunday...

got out to studio ~9am sharp..walked down to river for a bit..car pulled up in lot,thought it was c. so went up..nope.
got in ~9:10 started glory hole and set up bench..

Went out to shop sunday about 12:30,A.B. having open house...pretty good crowd this year!. hey B. shows about 1:30..good to see ya !. may be working this year. been coming out on sat. anyway..looks like i'll be starting back up the first of november..will work out good,as the new mold is just about done - will post pics of it in a few...
hung out for a while,did a demo with the polkadot marver..seemed to work..at least it gave a neet texture to the surface..we'll see.
man that was a blast to get back on the bench - just like riding a bike now...lol

seems like the "closer" it gets to glassblowingtime the more i've been kicking around ideas.
came up with this recently: string 1/4" dia. ball chain from edges of a frame to make lines of dots... i'll see if i can post a cad drawing of it..
another was: get some 1/4" stainless screen to use as a marver and kind of push the glass thru a bit to make box like marks in the color..
i'm taking notes - so i'll be kicking ass ! lol

went out to studio saturday to pick up glow glass and check out a.b. open house...right away a. was talking about some problem with b. she's upset about something or mad at me and a.b...dunno what that deal is ..lol i hope she comes back next fall..she was a good assistant and fun to work with...
put glow bottle in sun for a charge..a.b. wants me to do a demo for the few people milling around. did small apertif glass with bubble field (it'll replace the old one i broke by accident couple weeks ago)..feh kinda warm today ..will keep it small.
a.b. makes A HUGE vase - the crowd goes wild !
did another demo with glow glass.solo punty and boxed it up.
put glow bottle in the bath with lights off - freaking wild !! nice blue glow on it - IT WORKS !!
split around 3:00..had a good time even without.. a.b. talking about me making a rolling unit for the marver to roll sheet glass..i'll pick at the design the next couple weeks..

decided to go out to studio and test that glow glass..already pretty warm in morning,but.. got out around noon,hmmm no a.b. and "private student" waiting to get in - lol, "you'll get used to it" !a.b. shows, says i can get a shot when stude takes a break... so i help out while waiting - well, blew a small piece with the GLOW GLASS..picked up good,worked in well = no problems...self puntied and boxed that sucker..can't wait to check it out !!!..........now, THE GOOD NEWS...went by acorn shop on way back with some geometric work, k. and spouse (i presume) there, remembers me "oh,good" show them work - they love it ! (more fans !! lmao) going to put in special cabinet..... SHE TAKES ALL EIGHT PIECES !! .............COOL ! this calls for celebration tonight !!! swung by store and picked up nice rib-eye and a bottle of port - time to party!!!!

got home yesterday - box on porch...got the glow glass !! hot damn riggetyjig!! lmao
tore that box open ! 2 jars.. put one in sunlight to "charge up"
it's a light blue/white..mixed frit size.
later in evening i put it on a plate and set it under a 75 watt lamp - will check out when it's lights out...
took it into computer room around 10pm COOOOOLLLL nice blue glow.. tried to take a pic..will see if it comes out

got out sat. ~10am,b. and c. already there;bench set up and glory hole ripping - ready to rock & roll !
1st piece did white seed bubble..picked up lots of stainless wire on second gather,worked it in on bubble marver and got 3rd gather,shaped that up and went into hex mold (now 3" across) pulled it out - looks great ! b. gets over to puntie it up and helps paddle the lip flat - boxed that puppy !

#2 got iris gold on second gather,reduced it then quenched for crackle (twice) - got 3rd gather,shaped it up a bit,then picked up a line of "voynich text" - looks great ! b. suggests blowing it out some more..then i ask about her blowing while i support the bottom and flatten it in at the same time - "go for it" worked great !!! just as i had hoped - been waiting to try that since last year !! puntied up and just put a very slight flare on the lip !! probably THE BEST PIECE I'VE EVER DONE !!!
.....then no. 3 went to hell.................LMAO!!

later b.,c. and i discuss taking next week off on account of easter..sounds good.. i'll probably come by friday to pick work up..maybe try the glow glass ?

altered tall hex mold finally,made it 3" across flats for approx.46.7 cu. in. it was 63.6 - no wonder that one piece was so freaking thin....should have way better luck with it now ! been kicking around the idea of the box mold again..but may not be enough time left in april to do it up...maybe make it up later on and test it out on a cooler day if'n b. wants to get out one day this "summer"
thinking about blowing on and off thru the warmer months...

swung that all out and got it ripping hot..went into old (large) hex mold..holy shit ! blew out really well - got great shape and height !! ( the newbies eyes almost pop outta their heads - lmao !!)

well..made it to box - seemed a little thin,so well see..
3rd piece i used that aquamarine again..it was cracking to pieces.might have blown it too thin..or, i'm still wondering about it... that sonavabitch hopped off the puntie.. b. tried to rescue it from floor - it just kept busting though - thanks for the save baby !!
all in all pretty good effort for 1 1/2 hours..

so, in honor of that, on a run for work ; i swung by cvs for stamps - and left a piece on the freep box...some corpulent old woman pulled up just as i walked away - zounds ! glassblowingman nearly found out !!! lol lol - thought i might witness my first "taking"...
i'll swing by after work to see if it's still there... but damn..do'nt have my cam..

went by acorn shop with new large green piece (see below); the owner "k." (what a hottie :-P !!) already carries fenton art glass (bleh) "so i would'nt be interested" (freaking tart !!) but we chat and she would be interested in carrying my geometric pieces..or anything "different"... cool !!...so i'll be back later on with stuff like that..
in regards to the green piece..i took it in for the desk at work..man, every time i look over i get that all too familiar feeling in my loins .. LMFAO !!!

THIS IS LAST WEEKS WORK

got out to shop about 9:45 - c. just got there,but glory hole heating up,b. on her way...
worked with displacement again once b. got in..had some success with it & b. getting pretty handy at assisting.. good punties and a good reckoning with me on timing..
ended up with one on floor (my bad) one with bottom cracked...2 pretty nice pieces AND A BOWL FOR B. !!
all in all pretty productive for just 1 1/2 hours !!

finished the paddle up yesterday..has 2 working surfaces,a 10 degree tapered edge for getting right up agin the jacks and a rounded nose for getting inside and beveling an inside lip... see how it works this sat. i hope.. piece of cake to make it up too !

got out to shop ~9:20 - b. already finishing a piece up !
got stuff set up..1) layered heavy white on seed;2nd gather,then diamond marver. 3rd gather, swung out for oct. mold..hopefully the bubbles will cast shadows on the white..and "move" as the lighting changes..shall see... pure genius !
2) combined shards of iris gold & ruby (old pieces) on preheater - picked those up on 2nd gather & cased with clear;blew out into oct. post mold - got good shape & puntied up..dam straight break too ! - then the sucker broke to bits.. i think it was a compatibility problem... shit ! was going to make a bowl for b.s "bowls for beggars" dinner but it kept cracking... fuggit !
last piece i alternated iris gold & gold ruby bands - IT WAS GREAT !

recieved a course catalogue yesterday from oxbow school of art.. nice sounding glass classes..one in experimental,taught by ed schmid.. 6 days/8 hrs a day for $475.00.. includes lunch ! = ~10.00 an hour lol..lets see a.b. beat that !
have until late march to mull it over..hmm..probably 75.00 a night for a room.. i'll have to look into the financial situation further..

LAST WEEKS WORK

got out to ypsi 9:30 am. beat b. in... hm. door froze ajar..j. says it's been open all night lol BLOCK WATER SKINNED OVER ,and i can see my breath ! "ITS FREAKING COLD IN HERE" lol
got started.. tested mini-marver on a ruby gold seed bubble..hmm.. got a gather over that.. YOWZUH ! produces a whole field of little bubbles !! (not sure yet what it does to the color). swung out a bit, b. in at that point, so she punties it up and paddles the lip flat - digs it to.. wants to use it - no problem..
2nd piece i went with 3 gathers,enough room on marver to roll #2 gather...3rd gather over that - blew into oct. mold GAWDDAM ! it's great !
3rd piece i went with a white interior/ruby gold exterior - and the minimarver...swung way out for more height....aighhh the punty gave out when nearly done - i swear that sonafabitch jumped off to get in the glory hole to warm up... LMFAO !!! I thought the punty was a little skimpy..should have turned it down lol..
all in all, a good day in the hot shop..well, it was'nt too hot with that door open ..

went out sat. at 9:30 am . a.b. not in.. b. there working when i arrive. dropped a bit of aqua into preheat. 'k; get started.. tried the iris gold and white in oct. mold again...got out of hand again when flaring the lip...damn, too thin ! did color pick up for 2nd piece..then 2 gathers over that.. got good size now ! YOWZAH !!. blew that into oct. mold.. yeah !! i kicks ass !! broke it off and puntied up.. small clear spot on lip.. b. suggests pointing it out for a pour lip..now you're talking baby ! got that one in the box !
o.k. for last piece (1/2 hr. left) tried iris and white AGAIN . this time with 3 gathers...used 4" block...allllrigghhhtt got me a bit of glass LOL ! ..swung that shit out about 7" long and into oct mold..blew it in about 5 times annnddd... fock yea !
b. got a good punty,flared the lip and paddled it flat....box that puppy !

New mold

got out to ypsi 9:15 a.m... b. already there,glory hole ripping hot....
first piece was solid white interior,picked up aqua shards from last weeks failure (lol) blew into newer,tall hex mold = kick ass !
2nd piece i alternated iris gold,then white,hmmm maybe four times on seed bubble;clear gather over that..it got a little out of hand,was stretching out fast so i bailed into new octo-mold and blew out - it picked up the shape real well and had terrific height - about 9 inches. b. did an awesome punty and it broke clean off on the neck.. in freaking business ! flared the lip about 2 inches and took it to box...it may have been a little thin..i thought i saw (heard) cracks forming when i knocked it off ... ]:-P FOCK ! it was still together later,so, knock on wood..
last piece (b. had split) i did the same, but tried to pick up iris gold on lip to reduce as a gold band - that may have worked.
all in all a pretty good day in the hot shop !

rod was 16" long..1" gives good color..only $2.00 for a piece !
